CANTERBURY J.C.

LAST DAY OF MEETING. REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. The Canterbury Jockey Club's New Zealand Grand National Meeting will be brought to a conclusion to-day. Excellent acceptances have been received, including a number of horses making their first appearances at the gathering. The task of investors will thus be made a little more complicated, but form will be valuable to follow, as the track conditions promise to be the same as 011 the two previous days, perhaps slightly harder. The programme will bo carried out as follows: — 11.31 a.m.— AYLESBURY STEEPLECHASE, Of 200 sovs. About two miles and a half. at. lb. st- lb. The presence of Croupier has probably influenced the position to a certain extent, as he stands out ana will be a short priced favourite. <joia Pit and Moorbird should also race prominently--12.61 p.nxSYDENHAM HUBDLBS. Oallamart and Lancer will be missing, but most of the National favourite division will again parade. Prince Lu > who wil. be ridden by D. O Connor, will find the distance to his liking, whilo Amorist will again keep him up to his task. The Tatter was going very strongly when he misjudged nis fatal fence on Thursday, and he sutfered no ill effects from his tall. Make Up was not paid up for, but the stable holds a strong hand in Landmark, whose third placing in the ® lhat Race and second berth in tlie seven turlong hack race on Thursday proved his condition. Conjurer n. would have to improve a_ gocxl deal to be seriously regarded. but at tne same time his National effort may have been more beneficial to him wan otherwise. High Pitch ran a solid race in th<s big event, but the hard ground is against him. and Nukumai ana Metnbo appear to be similarly handicapped. Public opinion 's. llkel^ T ;° take a wide range, and Prince Lu, Amorist, and Landmark may be trie best supported. 1.41 p.m.— STYX HURDLES Of 200 10VS. He is again, likely to be at a. cramped price, and Apache and Ramcscs will be in moderate demand. 5.86 p.m.— LINCOLN STEEPLECHASE, Of 350 (ot«. About three mllej»t. lb. at. lb. Wiltshire is an interesting acceptor, and although he failed badly in day's event, lie ran quite a creditable race in the National Hurdles, and evidently there is not much amiss with him. Paris will again have a, large following, and unless liis two hard rftces have found liim out, )io will d© on hand at the finish. Snpwfall will not hfjivo the services of A. E. Ellis, and will probably be ridden by D. O'Connor. The National ordeal had little effect on him, and he will be freshened up by the spell in the interim. Dark Prince has only to complete the course to make a return, but two falls may have left their raai 'k. Omeo was sore after the National, and although improved since, he only remained over in case the track lost its hard surface. Lucess collected third money in the big race, but his form did not impress Tuki is to have his first race at the gathering, and as he has been subjected to a few day's idleness he will be at a disadvantageOopey, fourth in the National, registered another attractive performance on Thursday, and although not brilliant there is no doubt about his consistency Bon Aryan Ims yet to finalise an attempt over the big Kiocarton country, but he is gifted with more than ordinary speed for tho game, and should lie get round to-day he will have the field in trouble over the final stages. Matu did better on TTuysday than for some time past, but still does not appeal in to-day's class. Tunarnoe was §oing very strongly when he was elimimated in the Beaufort Steeplechase, and such a solid stayer may have his chance here. Racegoers can look forward to witnessing another spectacular contest, and the final issue will probably be confined to Bon Aryan, Snowfall, and "Wiltshire.

It is difficult, however to go past those who have shown out earlier at this Meeting, and under this contention Charmeuss, Grea., Star, and Royal Saxon will be worthy of most consideration.
