CANTERBURY BRANCH. i A meeting of the Executive and Finance ddriiinittee of the Canterbury (New Zealand) Branch of tile British Red CJf6ss Society and the Order of St. John Was held on Wednesday. There were present:—Mr C. J. Romaldson (chaifliian), Lady Wigram, Sirs H. H, Smith, Miss Guthrie, Messrs W. E. JX Bishop, and H. L. Bowker. The financial statement showed that during July, 227 ex-service patients had received attention, and that the expenditure oil clothing, tobacco, hospital requisites, etc., totalled £ll9 14s 3d. In addition, expenditure on Red Cross Club work totalled £O7 9s 4d. A report from Major 'Barnes with reference to patients in the Mental Hospit&l was received. The report stated he had Visited the p6tieht§ every wefek and distributed tobacco, cigarettes, and fruit, as required. There tvafc a total of 91 men in hospital, as compared with 90 in tlie previous month. Mr Hughes Wrote stating that the frost had burst all the pifces ill the engine-room at the Rert Cross 'Club, Hantner Springs, but these had now beeh renewfed. Peace-Time Work. Sister Christian reported that during July instruction in health and homo nursing had been .given at Staveley, Mt. Somers, Raapima, and Mayfield. She also visited the people at Alford Forost, but for several reasons it was dfeemed advisable not to form a class there until the weather improved. Four cases of sickness had been visited and help and advice given It was hoped to form Junior Red Cross circles at the Staveley and Mt. Somers Schools. In each district the use of a hall or room had been given free for instructional purposes. It <tvas resolved that Sister Christian be thanked for her teport, and that letters ctf thanks be sent to the various committees and to others who are assisting. Copies of reports of the work done by Sisters Corkill Tngles, and Kirknatrick. respectively, in the North Tafanaki. South Tarnnakl. and Otago centres during the month of June, Were received.
