MAJOR EARTHQUAKE RECORDED.
TREMORS FELT IN EUROPE. (UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION —BY ELECTRIC TELEORAPn —COPYRIGHT.) (Received August 12th, 7 p.m.) BERLIN, August 12. European earthquake recorders indicate the greatest shock since the Japanese earthquake in September, 1923. Tho violent shaking put the seismograph needle right out. It is believed that the centre of the trouble is the sparse-ly-populated wastes of Central Asia. A CONFUSED RECORD. (ri.ESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, August 12. The Dominion Observatory's record of yesterday's earthquake was very confused, and indicates that the origin was about 2700 miles away, in the direction of the Solomon Islands. The shocks continued for three hours from 9.6 a.m.
