Reports of lnj creased rebel activities have reached j hero in spite of a most strict censorship. Advices from tho Santa Clara province say that 300 rebels invaded Santa Clara, killed 30 soldiers, and imprisoned 25. The rebels retired ; before tho arrival of army reinforcements. Several other interior towns aro reported to bo tinder rebel control after | sanguinary skirmishes. It was reported from Havana last Monday that a revolutionary plot had been foiled with the arrest of 17 Oppositionist leaders and tho confiscation of a rebel arsenal after a gun battle, in which three revolutionaries were killed and seven policemen wounded. President Machado declared martial law in the capital and the neighbouring provinces.
