THEATRE ROYAL.

•'THE SEA GOD." A remarkable story of adventure in the South Seas is told in "The Sea God," the picture at. the Theatre Royal this week % While an ambitious young sea captain is diving for pearls off the coast o: a cannibal island, natives swarm from the islands in canoes, massacre the whole ship's crew, and capture without ceremony the whites on board, including the heramo of the tale, who has managed to smusglo herself aboard the lugger. ' "THE ROYAL BED." "The Royal Bed," which commences at the Theatre Royal on, Saturday next, is described as one of the best releases of 1931. ] It. is an amusing farce of regal customs centred round European royalty, dazzling courts, cold but regal queens, human, playful kings, and the love of a princess forbidden to marry outside the royal family. This is al! told in fan with a delicious satire, whimsical and real. Lowell Sherman . plays the leading role in the picture, which lie aliio directed. Mary Astor is the princess, who falls in love with the king's uecretary, and Nance O'Neil is the queen. "The Royal Bed" is an out-and-out comedy, but it is that clever, smart type of picture • that has proved so popular in Christchurch. I't depends on witty dialogue and clever situations for its laughs and not upon purely ridiculous action or Bayings. The story is from the pen of llobert E. Sherwood. The story was first produced on the stage, where it achieved n big success, and reports indicate that everywhere the picture is screened it has a fine reception.
