MUNGANA ACTION. CHARGE OF CONSPIRACY. SALES OF SHARES ADMITTED. (Received August sth, 9.40 p.m.) BRISBANE, August 5. 1 n the course of tlie Mungana action, Mr A. D. McGill, counsel for tlje Crown, read answers by the defendants tc> tlio Crown's interrogatories. Peter Louis Goddard admitted that Frederick Raid had allotted 1250 shares in tbo Mungana Mines, Limited, to him "in consideration of the friendship, advice, and assistance which Goddard had given him in mining under" takings."

William IvlacCormack, ex-Premier of Queensland, admitted that his interest in the Mungana Mines began in December, 1917. Under a verbal agreement with Keid, MacCormack received £10,596 for his 3476 shares, which was paid to tho company by the Queensland Government. Mr McGill also tendered answers by MacCormack, showing that he paid various substantial sums to Edward Granville Theodore (now Federal Treasurer) between April, 1922, and July, 1925, The largest of these was £IGOO. Theodore did not give receipts. Theodore in turn confirmed the receipt of these sums. The case was adjourned.

DANGEROUS FLOODS. PEOPLE SHELTER IN GAOL. SYDNEY, August 5. With the hospital, the picture theatre, and dwellings in Wentworth, at tho junction of the Darling and Murray rivers, protected by embankments holding back several feet of water, tho town resembles a series of islands in a vast expanse of flood waters. The hospital is in great danger. It has bepn decided to abandon it, and remove the patients to Mildura. Residents worked continuously for flvo days and nights building levels to keep the rivers hack. Many families are shel*tering in the gaol, Tho waters are still rising.
