MISCHA LEVITZKI.
SECOND CONCERT TO-NIGHT: The reappearance' of Misclia Levitzki, the world-famed pianist, at the Civic Theatre on Thursday night was a triumph for the brilliant artist. Levitzki ' lias developed into one of the most consummate technicians who lias ever visited New Zealand. His- virtuosity is, indeed, of so remarkable a nature that executive difficulties may truthfully be said not to exist for him. His sensational power and vitality, • combined with dazzling velocity, mako him a superb Liszt player. Levitzki's Chopin, playing was one of the outstanding delights of his first recital, and to-tiight a comprehensive group of works by the Polish composer' will be included in the programme for the second recital in the (jivic Theatre, including Nocturne in C minor, Two Studies from Opus 25, Nos. 1 und 10; Ifeuurka in A flat major, and the "Heroic" Polonnaise. This group will doubtless be added to considerably by additional Chopin encores. To-night's programme commences with Liszt's arrangement of Bach'B Organ Prelude and Fugue in A minor, and Gavotte in A major from "Alcesto" (Gluck-Brahms). The outstanding work is Schumann's Symphonic Studies Op. 13, written in form of Variatio. These Variations aro remarkable alike for originality and scholarship, and they constitute Schumann's Bupreme achievement • in this form. The final group includes three pieces by E'ebussy, the French composer/Arabesque, Golliwog's Cakewalk, and "The Girl With the. Flaxen Hair," and tho brilliant Arabesques on Strauss's beautiful Blue Danube Waltz by Schulz-Kvler. The third recital will be given on Tuesday evening next. The plans . are at The Bristol, and day sales at Bcgg's.
