Surprise at the Auckland Acclimatisation Society's suggestion to stock Lake Pupuke, Takapuna, with trout was expressed by Dr. H. Chesson, medical officer of health, at Auckland. Lake Pupuke supplies the North Shore boroughs or Auckland with water. Dr. Ctiesson said it was doubtless intended to make the lako a fishing ground, and the Department of Health would strongly oppose any attempt to endanger the health of the community. The Department and tho North Shore Boroughs "Water Board had been enr deavouring for, many years to save the Jake from possible pollution. Thus lmildmg had been prohibited within the area, boating, fishing, and bathing had been banned, and the rights of adjacent property owners restricted.
