SALVATION ARMY BANDS.
Four silver, bands from the Salvation Array at Qhristchurch, Ashburton, Linwood, and Sydenham combined to give a conoext in the Salvation Army Hall, Batt'ersea street, Sydenham, <,on Saturday evening. Staff-Cap-tain Dry presided over a~- large attendance. The combined bands played a march, "Wellingtouian," and two hymn tones, "Regent Square" and- "Rimingtozu" The Ashburton 'band played a selection, "Bejoice," and a meditation, "Contemplation.*-' The City band played a fantasia, "Thy \VlH;be Done,'": and a march, "Happy All. the Day." Th«. Linwood band played two .marches, and the Sydenham band played a march,' "Timaru," one of: the latest English compositions. Bandsman "R. Frew, of the Ashburton' hand, ' played a B flat cornet solo. "Cargo in G," and a trombone sclo, "Icebergs," X aß by Bandsman S. Hitchings, of tie Sydenham band. Two members, of the Ashbarton band played a cornet duet, _Hosanna." A male voice choir from the Vi? «ond sang "Jesus is the T/ord," aiid Adjutant Canty sang a solo, '"My Task." The proceeds .were for the Sydenham band.
