ABATTOIR FEES.

to Tan csrros cy thi x-ksss. Sir,—Some few weeks ago it was mentioned in the newspapers that the City Council was not receiving some of the abattoir fees for killings by freezing companies; that itf, in inference to loeal consumption. I have seen meat killed an Danedin and railed to Christchurch for local consumption, and Also meat killed in Christdrarcb and sent to Gray* mouth and other places on the Coast for the same purpdse.What I would like to know is, if in the first instance the' Dnnedin City Ooontil would get the abattoir fees or the Christchnrch €ity Council, and in the latter instance the West Coast local authority, or again the Christchnrch City Council. It is apparently waste of money in extending and improving the local situation if freezing companies are going to get the big portion of the local butchers' killings.—Yours, etc., ECONOMY. ' May 29th, 1931. [The municipal authorities state that if meat has been killed in Duncdin for consumption in Christchnrch, fceß will be due to the Christchurch City Council; at present they are sot aware that meat slaughtered in Dunedin has been sold for consumption in ChristchuTcli. Fees have been received ,by the Christchurch City Council in respect of meq,t slaughtered in the North Island and brought to Christchnrch for consumption here. As to meat slaughtered in Christchurch by a freezing Company for consumption on the West Coast, the Christchurch municipal authorities are not interested in the question of fees, as they are entitled only to fees from freezing, companies in respect of meat sent to the City of Christchurch for consumption.}
