BOROUGH COUNCILS
— RANGIORA. Rangier* Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr TV. A. Jiowso), and Crft. R. R. Gillanders, «T. A. Ivory, H. K. Kippenberger, R. Mcintosh, F. E. Martyn J. c Scott, J. F. Sutherland, and C; W. Tyler. With lo^h T n rec , eived from tho Kangiora High School Board aßking that tho footpaths on Wales street be attended to, tho matter being referred to the' Works Committce. The District Land Registrar wrote asking whethor Charles and King streets had been formed and metalled to the Batisfaction of . Council, and whethor they were recognised as public streets by the Council. Tho clerk was instructed to reply in the affirmative.' An application from Mr C. Thomson for tho Council s approval to a revaluation of his property on (he East Belt for rating purposes was granted. The Railway Department forwarded authority for the laying of water mains undor tho railway lines, as required. Tho Rangiora Basketball Club wrote unking for tho use of a playing ground at Dudley ParV, the application being granted. A letter was received from the St. John Ambulanco Association applying for permission to hold a street sale of badges on June 91h. The request was declined. Messrs J-. Mayo and Co., tho contractors for excavating and back filling in connexion with tho laying of the water mains, wrote advising that they had. cut their price a lit tic too fine, but. intended completing the work. In tendering tbey had omitted to make provision for cutting out pot-holes for tho pipe jointer, and ail application wag made for a Council employee to bo deputed to do that particular work. Tho matter was referred to the Genoral Committee for a report. The cnginoer, Mr W. H. Stevens, reported that good progress was being made with the o£ the steel water mains, .100 chains having been completed by May 20th. At tho wator-tower concrete had been poured to 27ft above ground level. A start had been made with the well and pump-house contract. Tho galvanised pipes had come to hand, but until the fittings arrived in about a month's time the work of laying them could not be commenced. The Town Clerk reported the bank balances to be'-District Fund, £2899 19s 3d debit; electric, £587 13b 2d credit: sewer loan £l9 -Is lid credit; water loan, £5265 15s 3d credit. The following committees were elected:— Finance —Councillors Kippenberser (chairman), Sutherland. Ivory. Tyler, Gillanders. Works —Crs. Tyler (chairman), Martyn, Mcintosh, Ilendren, and Scott. General Commit'toe —Tho Council. It wasidecidod to meet on the third Thursday in the month. The Council decided to make an inspection of tho borough on Wednesday. It was decided to Eend a letter of sympathy to Councillor Hendren in his illness.
