BUILDING TRADE.
CONSTRUCTION IN THE CITY. In the first four months of this year the Christchurch City Council issued building permits for construction aggregating £168,579 in value, as compared with £251,289- in the corresponding period of 1930, a decrease of £82,710. The total last month, £.14,621, was the second lowest for several years for such a period, January of this year having' given the even more modest figure of £14,365. Both of these totals show a great decline on those for the corresponding months of last year, while February and March this year actually gave increases.
