SALVATION ARMY.

A SATISFACTORY STREET APPEAL. The Salvation Army realised £195 from its annual street collection yesterday. The arrangements were made by Divisional Headquarters on behalf of the general work done by tho Army in New Zealand, and in the missionary fields abroad. From fairly early in the morning collectors were busy in the City streets and by late afternoon a great many people's coat, lapels were decorated with the "self-denial" badges. At each corner willing workers from the City corps and suburban corps were to be seen, the latter having charge of Linwood, St. Albans, Spreydon, New Brighton, Sumner, Kaiapoi, and Sydenham.

"Considering that the collectors put in about an hour less than last year, owing to the unfavourable weather in the late afternoon, we are very satis fled with the result," said Brigadier F. W. Burton, Divisional Commander, last evening "It is just about the same as we got last year." ♦ The street collection is only part of the annual appeal for funds for the Army. A house to house canvass has been going on for some weeks, and should be finished in about another week. There are still a few annual subscriptions and other donations to be collected. When the appeal is concluded it is hoped that quite a substantial sum will have been collected.
