THEFT OP UNION FUNDS.

Charles Stephen York Freeman, alias Black, aliaa William Atkin, aged thirty-five, who was recently appointed secretary of the, Marlborough Hotel Workers' Union, was charged with the theft of moneys received on behalf of th«» uniiin H"«» Dlondod euilty, nnd was sentenced to reformative detention for a period not exceeding twelve months. There was no previous record of dishonesty _ against the accused. This a!inses. it was stated, arose out of the accused's endeavour to avoid arrest for failure to maintain his wife.
