TZie Haugiora County Council met yesterday, the chairman (Mr W. Stalker) and Crs. J. M. Young. H. Tallott, G. K. Crysell, A. A. Ormandy, A. Mcintosh, and J. Brosnan attending. The foreman in his report detailed the work carried out during the month, and stated that a start would be made during the coming week with the construction ot three culverts in the Oust riding. He recommended that a set of pipes should be put in on the road near Mr H. Miles'* gateway, and another set at Mr Sail's gateway. The report was adopted. It was decided to put in a culvert, opposite Mr Miles's place, but to take no action in regard to pipes at Mr Sail's. It was resolved that' as soon as Mr A. M: Carpenter straightened his creek - a culvert would be constructed on Mariaki road. Messrs O. and M. Evans wrote that should Mr Carpenter accede to the Council's request and. the proposed work be carried out, they would hold the Council liable for any damage that might thereafter be done to their property.

The offer of Sir G. Neiman to supply screened shingle into the hopper in any of the river-beds at 2s 6d per oubic yard was accepted. Mr Alan Kerr applied to have kerbing and channelling put in opposite his property on the East BeHw - It .was decided to comply with the request, provided the applicant paid half the cost of the wbrk^ Mr James -Bunting wrote asking the Council to meet part oi the cost of improvements he had effected in a .reserve leased by' Tiiia from the. The Rangiora Town Clerk wrote that advice had been received from the Municipal Association's solicitor that legislation passed in 1926 authorised the Borough Council to take connexions to the borough sewerage system from houses in the neighbouring county upon such conditions as the Oouncil might impose. The Council had decided, however, not to allow any. connexion from the county until the system had been;• in operation for 12 months, to allow it to be in thorough working order. Regarding - a request from the County Oouncil to be allowed to take over the maintenance .of boundary roads, the. Borough Oouncil wrote thatfit was not in favour of the change being made during the current ,year, as the estimates for the year had been made, and a certain amount of work already carried out on the roads in question. The Borough Council recommended that the. matter should be, considered by representatives from both Councils towards ■ the end of the current financial yearInformation was received from the : officer in charge of the Valuation Department that the Council's application for a revaluation of the county bad been referred to-the Value!--Oeneral for consideration. In connexion with the transfer of the Oust Library .
