CANTERBURY DIVISION MEETS. NEARLY £17,000 COLLECTED. A. statement of receipts and expenditure' submitted yesterday to a meeting of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society (Canterbury, Marlborough, Nelson, and Westland Division) showed that after making allowance for outgoings the amount collected and estimated to come was «£ 16,082 16s 7d. The statement, which was submitted by the secretary (Mr 33. 11. Wyles) was as follows:
The secretary reported that as the campaign in some of the districts in the division had not been brought to ■finality it was only possible in some cases to estimate amounts in the statement. He was informed by the secretary of the Dunedin Division that efforts "would be made shortly to bring the- amount up to £25,000, the stun aimed at, and a meeting would be held in Wellington on October 16th to consider the question of holding an art union for the benefit of the Dominion funds of the Society. In moving the adoption of the report, H. J. Otley stated that he was disappointed that the sum aimed at—-&2s»QQ£r-h.ad_ aot.. bees, .o.bjtajned, but nevertheless the effort had been a good ; one. It was. felt that, there was not much good to be achieved by continuing the appeal at present. The motion was seconded by Mr W. S. Newburgh and carried. On the motion of Mr H. Lightband it was decided that the Finance and Appeal Committee., be .disbanded and a special Finance Committee be set up with power to act to carry on the work of the Society until such time as it is considered advisable to close the appeal. The action of Dr. H. T.,D. Acland in agreeing that the division should find £SOO for research work at Wellington and £IOO for a clinical registrar, provided other centres did likewise, was approved.-
It was decided that the Finance Committee be authorised to spend up to £l5O a year, on a divisional clinjcal registrar.
