THE MAJESTIC THEATRE.
WILLIAM POWELL IN DRAMATIC THRILLER. William Powell is the only actor in Hollywood who could possibly have taken the leading character in- "The Street of Chance," a character who is as much, a gambler as any of those tard-cheat« in old-fashioned Westerns, and made-*. g;eptEsman out o£ him. In "The Street of whichvftll' bo presented at the Majestic Theatre this week, Powell gives the most expert performance of bis life. In a role which demands almost sustained drama, with few relieving touches of humour, save thOße of his own charming cynicism, he acquits himself with honours. Miss Kay Francis, Miss Jean Arthur, and Mr Regis Toomey are three oiher important members in. the little coterie with which this amazing Wall Street speculator- surrounds himself. The story is. a romance of big business, and also the story of a gambler's wife's endeavourss to cure her husband of his ruling passion. Kay Francis jfuts up a gallant fight, but even a woman cannot always overcome a man'B colossal egotism. The supporting items on the Majestic programme are particularly interesting. The famous comedian, Eddie Cantor, is in "Get--ting a Break," a comedy act; Lyddel and Higgins, singers, are a tuneful pair, while V second comedy, "Fatal Forceps," and k Paramount "Eyes artd Ears" of the World Gazette, complete this part of the evening'a entertainment.
