BOXING.
HIGH SCHOOL DEFEAT ST. ANDREW'S. A SPLENDID EXHIBITION. In seven well-fought bouts Christchurch Boys' High Sohool scored a decisive win over St. Andrew's College on Saturday evening in the annual boxing contest between the two schools. There was a large number of appreciative supports in the Canterbury College .gymnasium, where the bouts took place. 1 Though every boilt was an interesting one, High School secured tho decision in each of them, which was mainly due to the-.,dif-ferent tactics employed by- the competitors. The High School boys generally were the-, better ail-round boxers, able to adapt thqmtelvos tu any style of boxing.. On the other hand, St. Andrew's boys were rather too orthodox, and very infrequently departed from a consistent use of the left hand. Mr A. K. Anderson, headmaster of St. Andrew's College, Spolce after the bouts, congratulating Boys' High School on their superiority and thanking the officials for their 1 work and Canterbury College for the use of the gymnasium. W. J. Brittenden, head. prefect of' Boys' High School, replied, and cheers were interchanged. The officials wore: Referee, Mr J. D. Hutchison; judges, Messrs 0. S. Thomas and W. E. Mouldeyj timekeepers, Captain W. Hoar and Mr C. H. Taylor, jun.; announcer, Mr T. J. Burrows; medical adviser, Dr. W. H. Simpson. The results were as follows (each bout being of three two-minute rounds):— UNDER 6st. E. Kerr (Boys' High School), 6st, beat N. Williamson (St. Andrew's), 6st 101b. Williamson opened with three lefts to the head, and Kerr boxed him to the ropes, hitting with both hands. A sturdy boy, Kerr held a Bound guard and boiced better than his opponent.
