01/UJB CHAMPIONSHIP. The final of the Harewood Club championship was played off yesterday between R. T. Tosswill and J. Smith-Wilson, and after one of the greatest fights ever seen at Harewood, Tosswill won, at the 36th hole 1 up. It was not until the 35th .that the winner gained his lead. At the end of the morning round Smith-Wilson was 3 up, but in the afternoon Tpsßwill, whose approach shots and putting had been weak, steadied himself, and played good golf. By the 28th hole he had squared with his opponent. Thence onwards it was a neck-and-neck fight, but Tosswill gradually wore Smith-Wilson down, and after taking the lead for the first time at the 36th, he halved the last hole and thus won the match.

In the senior event- D, 0. Johnston .defeated J. B. Bruges 6 up and fi. Golf of a high order waa played, Johnston being round in the morning in 76, and Bruges in 78. The game was closer than the scores indicate, however, as Bruges was 1 down at the 16th, but Johnston finished with a three at the 17th, and a perfectly played two at the home hole, where his tee shot stopped about five feet past the pin.: Both took 41 for thfe first nine holes in the afterno6n. The 28th was halved in fours, but Johnston tHen took the next three holes in 4, 3, 3, and the match ended 6 and 5. Johnston's putting throughout ths gam<» was Very sound, and his lioling several putts of over 12 feet made all the difference to the game. In the .junior championship H. Gosset defeated R. D. M. Bassett at the 38th hole in s keenly-fought game. In the morning round Gosset was ope up' at the turn, but Bassett wton the 12th hole to square the match. Gosset won the 14th to become 1 up again, bnt Bassett squared it the 17th, and the home hole was halved!, leaving the match all square after the morning round.. Gosset • had the better of the first nine holes in the afternoon, being out in 41 and 8 up. However, Bassett won the next three holes to square the match once more. The next four holes were halved, leaving Gosset dormy one.
