ATHLETICS.

THE SEASON OPENED. CANTERBURY COLLEGE SPRING MEETING. The first athletic meeting of the season ■was held on Saturday afternoon, when the Canterbury College Amateur Athletic Club conducted a successful afternoon'? sports at the Christ's College ground. Weather conditions were ideal, but tho track vas heavy and times only fair. Yllhough training wus not far advauced with the majority of the competitors thero was some splendid running, and several close finishes wore fought out. The most interesting race of tho day was the two miles handicap, won by R. M. Uarrer (scr) in lOmin 15 l-ssec. Barrer ran on hia own for live laps boforo he caught M. R Uobinson. The hunt man, L. S.
