The direction of the earthquake was from the coast. A second rumbling noise was heard a few minutes after the main shake, but it was not *9-.,," companied by oscillation. " - SHOCK AT SCARGILL. .} A sharp earthquake shock was felt at Scargifl on Monday morning last at approximately 2.65 a.m. 'The shock set the houses rocking, but it was of short duration. The shock reported in Christchurch about two hoars later . was also felt, but was very nweb lighter than the earlier one.
