COUNTY COUNCILS.
AMUBI. At the monthly meeting.' df the Amuri County' Council, thero were present: Crs. M. Bethell (chairman), H. R. Davison, J. J. Duncan, tt. Mercer. K. Pettlgrew, G. O. Rutherford, W. Hanmer Atkinson, E. li. Jameson, and 3. J. Gallagbor. Before commencing the ordinary business a nioti«n. of' sympathy was passed with (ho relatives- of the late Mr Eoger Gould, 'The termitage," Itotherham.-' Cr. K. Pettigrew reported that the committee: had inspected the spring which the Waiati Croquet Club wished to harness, and recommonded that the. club be- given permission to carry out the proposal.—Adopted.On the -recommendation of the ' committee eet up to go into the matter of a house for the. county clerk, it wis decided to raiso a loan for tlie purpose, tha money to be repaid by way of rent. On the motion of Cr. Rutherford it was resolved that section 48, Culverden, be purchased from Mr E. Hitchcock, for £SO. Mrs K. •M. Heard wrote complaining of stock on-the road fainting her section at Waiau. The ranger reported having inspected the road a number of tiroea without finding stock. The Hanmer Voluntary Fire Brigade wrote applying for a grant towards their funds', and also aaked if the Council had any bylaws relating to fires.—The clerk was instructed to reply thai the Council could no* see its way to contribute, and that it had no byJaws relating to fires. The North Canterbury Hospital Board wrote forwarding a scale of charges made by the Amuri doctor. •The Culverden branch of tho Farmers' Union wrote with reference to the danger of planting trees in the gravel pit at Culverden, as r it would obstruct the view of the railway line.—The chairman reported having replied that the matter would be considered, and that one of the conditions of the Department was-that the trees should not -interfere with the view of the lino. Messrs Duncan, Cotterill and Company wrote witli reference fo signatures required to complete the lit.- Stuart road deviation plans,—The chairman reported having replied and that the matter would now be completed. One tender was received for pipes on the Hanmer road.—lt was resolved that tho tender be accepted. The following offers v.-ero received for tha Council's old firenrooi safe: —T. Wood (Hanme* Springs), £5; E. Eetholl (Waikari), £8 'accepted). .''.... " The chairman reoorted having made an insnection of all -county roads. Officers' reports were read and adopted.
