SOLAR ECLIPSE.
EXPEDITION TO NIUAFOU. (PEJ3SS 4S3OCIATION TF.LEGBWO WELLINGTON, September IS. With the departure next Tuesday from Auckland of the Niagara there will leave the New Zealand Astronomical Expedition, which will observe the total '(eclipse of the sun on October 22nd. The expedition, which is an omciarone of the British Empire, will go to Niuafou or V'Tin-can" Island, the best spot 111 the' Pacific from, which to observe the phenomenon. Dr. C. E. Adams, Government Astronomer and leader of the party, Messrs W. E. de Montalk, and P. W Glover- will leave Wellington for Auckland on Saturday. The. other members, of the party who will -joui them at Auckland, are Messrs W. C. Burns, P. Gawith, C. B. Miclue, and P. L. OvcrWhilst the eelipse will be a total one at Niuafou, in New Zealand it will be visible only as a partial eclipse, and should be seen, if the weather is clear, from, all parts of the Dominion. In Wellington the eclipse will begin at 8.33 a.m. (Summer-time) on October 22nd, and finish at 10.53 a.m. • The white currant and white raspberry, though every bit as delicately flavoured as the red, have gone out of faahioa, and are almost unsaleable.
