MAGISTERIAL. SATURDAY. ' (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.il.) . COMPLAINT DISMISSED. Ethel Diana Bancroft (Mr W. I'.. Tracy) proceeded against her husband, Ernest Sydney. Bancroft (Mr R. Twyneham), for main-' tendnce, on the ground that he had failed to maintain her and her child.- The-complaint was dismissed. CHILDREN' S COURT. SATURDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., and Mrs T. E. Taylor, J.?.) A boy who hadi previously appeared before the Court on August .'Both*. for being concerned in a number of bicycle thefts appeared again on two further charges of,theft, one of a, sum of 17s 7d and the other of £3 Is. Chief-Detective J.. Carroll stated that ono offence had been committed some - time before the boy's previous appearance in Court, snd the other after that summons bad been issued. The first offence concerned money Stolen .from a car in a .lady's hantljbag, and. the other a purso and contents, taken from a man's clothes while ho was at a band practice. The empty purse and the handbag had later been recovered and traced to the accused. The boy's father said that he hud done his duty to h»B son, and had warned him and thrashed him, but apparently to no effect. Ho, thought the boy was very highly strung. : Thd Magistrate committed the boy to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. As the boy's father was out of work and had five children to-support he could not make ati order for restitution. Three boys were charged with riding bi--cycles without lights or.on the footpath; the first was fined 5s for having no light, the second was convicted and discharged on this' charge and fined 2s 6d for riding on the footpath,.'and the third was fined 2s 6dfor rid-' Ins on the footpath. ,
