CANTERBURY BANDS.
MARCH AND HYMN CONTEST.
, The recently formed Canterbury Provincial Bands' Association * has lost no time in getting to work, and has decided to hold a March and Hymn Contest (own 'choice) for B and 'O grado bands, on October 25th. The decision was arrived" at by a general meeting of the Association, held on Friday hrght, which was wellattended, and was presided over by Mr J. Noble. The constitution and rules wei'e adopted, and the following officers were elected: —President, Mr J. Noble; victe-president, Mr «T. M. Scott ; auditor, Mr. R. J. Estal.l. Regarding . the. March and Hymn Contest it' was decided that the Christchurch Municipal should be the organising band. Mr R. J. Estall consented to act as honorary musical judge. There will be no prizes," but the proceeds are to .be allocated as: follows: 50 per cent;, equally amongst, the competing b&nds; 25 per cent. t>o the organising band, and 25 per cent, to the funds of thp... Canterbury Provincial Bands' Association. ' Bands were; graded as follows: B grade: Christchurch Municipal, New Brighton. Derry's (brass section), Reeimental, and Ashburton Silver. C erade:. Rangiora Kaiapoi TeTrmka. Geraldine. and Waimate. The' Christ's College and- the Boys' High • School Cadet Bands are to be invited-to take part in the contest. .
