The race resulted in t, win for R. M. Bruce and E. B. Dalmer, on llmin, going away ai a steady paoe. The field followed in twos Mid threes and by the time Barrcr and J. X>. Pascoe {jot away the front men were nearly a mile and a half ahead. Bruce and Dalmer ran together across the back paddocks and along the road turning towards the water jump, and were ahead of the field when the bill climb was commenced, Bruce having a break of about 30 yards on Dalmer. R. A Young and G. M. Blyth, both of! the 4Jmin mark, had improved their posiMons and now held third and fourth places respectively, closely followed by ii. 3. Duncan, off 6min. The heavy track had slowed the par* across the paddocks, and the back-inarkaia were nearer the leaders than in previous years, Barrer especially having run brilliantly to pass over three-quarters of the field when he reached the water jump. He {hen held sixth place, some distance back, but was going well and his prospects were prood. He overhauled the leaders rapidly on the hills and was the first to enter on the long slope leading to the finish, coming £a to win with ease by 100 yards. Bruco nad held hia lead from the rest of the field and finished 40 yards ahead of Blyth. Youne wa« unable to head Blyth up the straight and came in 10 yards behind him. B. A.
