THE COOK STATUE.

CLAY MODEL FINISHED. The life-size clay model for the Captain Cottk statue has been completed by Mr W. T. Trethewey, the sculptor, nnd this afternoon members of tbf ro?nmittee will view it at his studio in Linwood avenue. When the work haß been inspected the model will be placed on public view and the work on the statue proper will commence , next month. The marble, from Italy, is on its way to New Zealand, and should be here early in October. The model is impressive, and shows Captain Cook in a pose suggestive of gazing out over leagues of ocean, in seareh of new lands. The committee, which will visit the studio this afternoon consists of the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), Miss M. 'O. Stoddart, .Messrs R. Wallwork, A. F, Nicoll, A. It. Gnlbraith, M. F. Barnett, and D/. J. Guthria.
