FRUIT MARKETS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Cabbages and cauliflowers hare been in over-supply during the week, and prices have been lower. The demand for root vegetables has exceeded the supply, and they have maintained their prices, karly spring vegetables are sailing exceptionally well, and the supplies are not equal to the enquiry. There nas been little movement in potatoes and onious. Good supplies of both are availuble, and prices remain unchanged. Good supplies of apples are still coming forward from Nelson. Tne quality of some of the lines is not up to standard, and prices for these are fairly low. Good graded lines of local apples are selling well and are meeting with a good enquiry. Pears are now conhned to cool store supplies, and where the quality is right good prices are realised. Hie lirst local nothouse tomatoes of the new season appeared yesterday morning. Tliey were grown by Air J. -U. Cameron, and sold at iis lid a pound, bmall quantities of Auckland cucumbers are coming forward, lliey meet fair enquiry at prices unchanged from last week. Owing to greater supplies, Auckland poormans and lemons are now much lower in price. .Plentiful supplies are available. tines and passions are 'meeting with a good demand. Prices remain firm. Oranges, mandarins, and lemons are coming forwaid ireely from Australia, and are selling at reasonable rates. The town is buru of bananas at present, and the next shipment will arrive from Wiuo about September IVtii. A largo shipment of citrus fruits was due to arrive from Melbourne yesterday. Next week the usual shipment of citrus fruits from Sydney will come to hand.

Apples are still iu fair supply, moat of the arrival* coming from Central Otago. itoally choice Delicious and Stunners have a sound enquiry. .Bananas tire in §hort supply. A further supply of Sam-oan-giown is expected to arrive here via Wellington eariy next week. The orange markot has firmed. Lemons are plentiful, but the demand is not very brisk. Mandarins in good condition ure realising better prices. American grapes are in good supply and have a ready sale. A feature M the market during the week was the very heavy consignments of cauliilowerß from all districts. For the past two months cauliflowers have been in short supply, but the milder weather has brought supplies in with a rush. Most of the cauliflowers were a choice quality. Swedes tre plentiful and slow, of sale. SOUTHLAND. (SPECIAL TO TH* PBESB.) INVERCARGIIiL, Septamber 5. The apple market continues fair and supplies have been more plentiful. Good choice fruit is selling readily and realising good values. Pears are very scarce and the few odd lots reaching the market are m poor order. The Maheno brought a big shipment 'of navel oranges, mandarins, ind lemons. This fruit met a waiting market and a large portion of the shipment waß cled red on arrival; The markot is now heavily supplied with lemons from Victoria, consequently the demand has eased off and vitlues have dropped. All classes of vegetables are in fair supply and the demand is very good. The supply of eggs is fast increasing and a drop in prices is recorded. The Canterbury Co-op.
