TRAMWAY BOARD.
MEETING HELD YESTERDAY.
At yesterday'a meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board there wore present:—Mr W. Hayward (chairman), Mrs E. McCombs, and Messrs D. Sykes, E. H. Andrews, W. J. Walter, John Wood, W. Williamson, and H. Pearce. Accounts amounting to £11,614 Is 2d were passed for payment. The Works and Traffic Committee reported having accepted the quotations of the Gilmore Oil Company for about 3419 gallons of first grade petrol, and that of Kent and Co. for the supply of 46,720 gallons of second grade petrol. The committee also reported that the Licensing Authority had granted the Board's application to run a partial "through" service and a partial "feeder" service between Temple ton and the City to commence on August Ist. As one of the applicants for the service had appealed against the decision the committee was endeavouring to arrange for the chairman (Mr Hayward) to represent it on the Appeal Board, pending Mr Flesher's return. Referring to tho Tramway Union's demands for a new award the committee reported that its representatives had been unable to come to an agreement with the union; the matter would, therefore, go to the Conciliation Council. The North Linwood Burgesses' Association asked that tho stop at Rochester street should be moved to Woodhouse street. The committee considered that the distance between tho proposed stop at Woodhouse street and the present stop at Surrey street was insufficient, and thought tho better plan would be to move the Rochester street stop round the corner, to Pole No. 10.
it. was agreed to do this. The committee had considered the request of All Saints' Church, and the Presbyterian Church, Sumner, that the 12.6 p.m. tram from Head street on Sundays should bo delayed. It regretted that the request could not be acceded to. To do so would impose too great an inconvenience upon churchpeople leaving Cliristchurch on the return journey at 12.40 p.m. Mrs McCombs said she was sorry that tho committee could not see its way to put the tram back even three or four minutes, if not live minutes as asked.
The chairman said the committee did not think it fair to delay the tram for five minutes, and the committee's attitude was endorsed.
The Board agreed to receive a deputation at next meeting from Papanui North residents, to discuss tho Northcote Road timetablo.
The Richmond Burgesses' Association complained that the tramcars at tho eud of the 2Jd section at Richmond blocked tho entrance to Tweed street. They should pull up either on one side of the street or the other. The General Manager said that the attention of all men on this run had been directed to the practice, which was a wrong one, so they now knew that this should not be done.
