CITY COUNCIL VACANCY.
MR A. A. M'LACHLAN»S CAMPAIGN. Mr A. A. McLaclilan, the Citizens' Association candidate for the forthcoming City Council election, addressed a well-attended meeting at St. Matthew's Schoolroom. Colombo street North, on Saturday evening. Other speakers were Crs. J. W. Beanland, E. H. Andrews. C. E. Jones, and M. E. Lyons. At the conclusion of the meeting the oandidate was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and confidence. LABOUR CANDIDATE. A meeting of Labour supporters was held on Saturday evening to discus 6 methods of assisting Mr G. T. Thurston in his candidature for the vacant seat on the Christchurch City Council. The main speaker for. the evening was Councillor D. G. Sullivan, who faid a tribute to the late Councillor '. R. Cooke. Mr Sullivan went on to say that Mr Thurston had the right viewpoint in regard to City affairs, which was that the City must be fair to itself, and keep itself up-to-date, but without taking more money from ratepayers than was necessary to maintain this standard. Mr Thurston, who was a very practical man, was supporting a common-sense and practical but Withal progressive programme.
