CAR PLUNGES INTO AVON.
MISHAP IN FOG. Nobody was injured when a ear plunged into the Avon at; about ten o'clock last evening, The car, a five-sen tor Buick saloon, registered number 119-247, was proceeding west along Kilmore stroet, and the driver apparently failed to notice the Intersection of Park terrace. It mounted the kerb, which must have caused a considerable bump, erossod the foot' path, and continued its course down the bunk, and finally stopped with its radiator under water and its back wheel* on the bank, It was stated that at the time of the mishap the fog was so thick that the street lamps were only just visible from the footpath. There wero five people in tho car, a man and his wife, and three children. In scrambling out ef the car they got their feet wet, but wero otherwise onhurt,
Skid marks r]l the way down the bank showed that the driver had done his best to stop the ear, but the grass was slippery with frost and offored little wheel grip. A oar ambulance waa summoned and with a wire rope and a block and tackle soon had the ear on the road. It came out with its radiator festooned with weeds from the river. Nothing about the car appeared to be broken or bent.
