N.Z. INDUSTRIES.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANP MANUFACTURERS. CONFERENCE TO BE HELD.

The difference? between the Manufacturers' Association and the Chamber of Commerce concerning the manufacturing industries in this Dominion, are to be discussed at a conference to bo held bctweon the two parties. At last night's meeting of the executive of the Manufacturers' Association a letter was received from the Chamber of Commerce pointing out that the Chamber was not in the least antagonistic to the Association, and suggesting that the Association should confer with the Economics Committee of the Chamber with the io>a of coming to an understanding. Mr E. H. Marriner (the organiser) said that it was proposed to meet the Economics Committee and show them over some of tho factories before meeting them in conference. Mr B. H. Webb: Why show them over the factories, I have shown many people over, and they generally get lost in five minutes, unless they com* for a feed. (Laughter.)

Mr F. L. Hutchinson said that it would be a good idea to show them over the factories. "Ip their opinion," he added, "our, systems are as dead as mutton, and we can soon' show them that that is far from the case. We have no animosity- against the Chamber of Commerce, but only against their economics, which date back, to Queen. Anne." Mr C. S. McCully moved, that the letter be received, and that no further action be taken. "They have tho medium Qf the newspapers," he said, "and have aired economic vjews and theories which we must combat." Mr A, W. Beaven: We can't do that, \W are working for the country's prospurity and we must not be so peremp T tory as merely to receive the letter. The motion lacked a seconder.

Mr C. H. Burspn moved that the executive meet the Economics Committee and show them over the factories before meeting them in' conference. The motion was carried.
