QUESTION OP OBSERVANCE.

The question of tlio observance of A'nzuc Day was discussed at t' lo monthly meeting of the Dunedin R.S.A. The discussion was prompted by the statement made at a recent mooting of the Manufacturers' Association to the effect that it was becoming more like a holiday than anything else.

The chairman (Mr J. S. Skinner): Their own experiences showed conclusively that tho attendances at the Anaac Day services were increasing and a spirit proper to tho occasion was being displayed bv the people generally. Mr H. L. Paterson said he had no sympathy with tho man who, simply because he was a manufacturer, thpught that Anzac Day should be held on tho nearest Sunday, merely bo save him a day's wages Even if it became necessary to celebrate Anzac Day on a Sunday he thought returned men would still observe the proper day. As time passed they would find it more and more necessary to celebrate Anzac Day on the nearest Sunday. Mr E. J Anderson said it was the duty of all Returned Soldiers' Associations to see that Anzac Day was observed, and he thought they should express gratification that the people of the Dominion, were showing their respect more than ever. As to. the Btatnte that was a matter for the people theihwlves to retain or to have an alteration effected by law. The president aiid Mr Anderson were empowered to draw up a remit for the conference, urging upon all Associations the necessity for proper observance of Anzao Day « s & day °* remembrance for the fallen.
