There is still a shortage of young doctors to take positions as house Burgeons at the Christchurch Hospital. The.authoriteis expect the shortage to continue for two or threo years.

The schedule for this year's Winter Show and Exhibition is in the printer's hands and will be issued towards the end of the present week. Generally, it follows on the lines of the schedule of last year's show. The excellent work done by the unerriployed returned soldiers on the roud at Mount Pleasant was reported on by Cr. A. G. Williams at the annual meeting of the Hcathcoto County Council last evening.

Of a total rate of JiDoo2 levied by tho I'aparua County Council in the year ending March 31st last, all but £3S 7s 9d was collected. Tho arrears represent about one penny in the pound of the total amount levied.

A new water-cooled X-ray tube has been installed in the radium department of the Christchurch Public Hospital. The officer in charge, Dr. P Clennell Kcnwick, reported to yesterday's meeting of the Hospital Board that cars for tho transport of patients to (he department were being supplied by lady members of Toe H. In public complaints about the "smoke" nuisance in Christchurch the chimney of the Christchurch Hospital has been repeatedly referred to as one of the chief offenders. It was reported at yesterday's meeting of the Hospital Board that the engineer had furnished a report, but had asked for further tinio to consider how the nuisance might be remedied.

Regarding the discussion of the suggested amalgamation of New Brighton with the City, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., has been asked to address meetings at Centr.il New Brighton, South Brighton, and North Brighton, but no decisipn has been arrived at yet, the impression being that one meeting for the three parts of the borough would bo more effective.

About sixty relief workers arc now employed on the improvement of the Main North road between the Conway bridge and Oaro, a distance of oight miles. Bean said that nurses trained at St. Helens had a line replication. There were probably two thousand of them throughout New Zealand doing splendid work. Mrs K. Mi - Combs, a member of the Board, said that Mrs Beau eeemecl to infer that nurses trained the Hospital Board were not of such a high standing. She asked if the deputation was aware that they frequently passed very well in (he State examinations. Those trained by Miss Pike had nearly always been in the Honours lists.
