AROUSING PUBLIC INTEREST.
In. perfect weather and in the presence, of a fair crowd the procession organised in the interests, of British motor-cars, trucks motor-cycles, and accessories passed through the City streets yesterday afternoon shortly after 3 o'clock. The exhibits were headed by the No. 1 motoij from the Christchurch Fire Brigade, in charge of Motor Driver A. Shah, the electric escape,. «nd the Boys' High School Band. British supremacy in engineering skill was the subject of at least two 01 tao display signs carried by lorries. Included among these were: "The motor world knows that 'Made in Great Britain' stands for perfection in engineering achievements"; "Great Britain not only creates air, land, and sea records, but retains them"; "Great Britain's engineering skill still remains supreme." Another calico carried the sign "Great Britain takes hO per cent, of New Zealand's total exports and New Zealand only itaports 47 per cent, from Great Britain." Despite'the fact that the representative makes of British motor-cars turned out in glistening paint, it was round the de Haviland Gypsy Moth from the Canterbury Aero Club that the greatest crowd collected when .too exhibits were taking up their positions a* Latimer square. The. aeroplane -carried a card stating that it had,been flown 19,250 miles between February 2nd and May 24th. . The prevailing note of the procession was that of business, only JconT firms putting in "exhibits tb.at cpuld:be classed as displays. Castrol Oil mS a "map of the world on a car- and over the top of it a tin of oil turned upside down. Dunlop Tyres had a display-of "their goods on a lorry, and Lucas batteries and other accessories were also mounted on a decorated- lorry--The remaining'specially displayed exhibit was that of Avon tyres . . The Exhibits. The order of the procession and those taking part in it were as follows: —Christchurch Fire Brigade, Boys High School Band, slogan, car, Canterbury Aero Club. C. C. Oil Co., David Crosier (Austin), Ley- „ land Motors, Tench Bros. (Singer }, New Zealand Express Co. (Den?,* 8 trucks), Blackwell Motor* (Vauxhall), Christchurch Technical High School Band, British Motor-Oycles (Supreme Motor-cvcles), Dominion . Motors <Atnv strong-Siddeley), Dqnlop Rubber Ok. (Dunlop tyres), slogan oar, Chris** church Motors (Morns cars \ trucks), Hayward Bros, (tyres an oil), Hoyds. Motors ' (Triumph caw), Wooff and Salvesen (Lucas TmtterK*),\ Tench and England (Rover and •«■«- dard), Maling and Co. (Avon tyro), Riley Motor Co. (Riley cars), 'Joan. i Burns (Star).. The procession will be repeated -on Friday afternoon next.
