The death has Occurred of the famous Arctic explorer and author, Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, G.C.V.0., D.Sc, D.C.L., Ph.D., F.R.G.S,, at the age of 68. (Received May 14th, 9.35 p.m.) LONDON, May 14. Dr. Nansen had been ill sine* March with phlebitis, but yesterday was attacked by paralysis of the heart and died in a few minutes. Newspapers pay a tribute to his achievements as an explorer, a Scientist and a humanitarian. The "Daily Telegranh" said that it would be found that he had no peers among the greatest Vikings. Fridtjof Nansen was born on October 10th,* 1861, near Christiania (Oslo), Norway, and studied there as well as later At Naples. In 1882 he made a voyage into the Arotio regions in the sealer Viking, and on his return was made keeper of the natural history department of the museum at Bergen. In the summer of 1888 he made att adventurous journey, accompanied by two Norweglanes and three Lapps, across Greenland from efist to west.
