At the monthly Hoard meeting of the British Sailors' Society, held at the Seamen s Institute, Lyttelton, last evening, the superintendent submitted the following report for the period Junuury 20th to February ~3rd, 1930: —Officers visiting Institute, 1-; men visiting Institute. 993; letters received and posted. 143; ships visited, 15; hospital 1; men visited, 2; services held, 4; mice, 38; concerts held, 2: attendance. 100, hooks and parcels of literature distributed, Ul; seamen assisted. C. Obstetrical Society' a Campaign. At a meeting of ladies, held in the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon, to consider the furtherance of the Obstetrical Society's campaign, the Mayoress, Mrs W. I. Foster, presided. . It was decided to organise a public meeting', to bo held oil March 11th, and the U>l- - were appointed a sub-comraiHyc to arrange for tho meeting: Mesdames Foster, J. I The departure of the oil-tanker Ilupemont j from Lyttollon yesterday for Balikpapan was delayed by the action of three members of the j stokehold crew in "jumping tho ship" just an she was leaving the wharf. The men threw their kitbags ashore and then followed them.l They made off to the other end of the waterfront. for it is understood they were desirous of joining another steamer which will leave New Zealand soon for.
