FIRES.
STABLES BURNED. [THB nsss Special SorTle#.] WELLINGTON, February 14. Mr H. Brown's stables and storerooms at Bristol street, Trentham, were totally destroyed by fire this afternoon. The stables were fortunately empty at the time, as Mr Brown was away at the Wanganui Meeting with his two horses, but the storerooms contained tools and gear used by Mr Brown in his business as a builder. One of his carpenters lost a motorcycle valued at £75 and a full kit of tools. An effort wa3 made to fight the fire before it gained full control, and water was brought from a main on the highroad, but the fire was up a side street, 150 yards from the main, and the only hose available was old and full of holes, with the consequence that not a great deal of water actually reached the fire by this means. The buildings were totally destroyed with their contents.
