BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOI. The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held tat night. Present: The Mayor (Rev. W. H. A. Viokery). Crs. E. J. Pollard, H. Rinaldi,-F. Thorne, H. Mcintosh, A. Linklater, J. D. Williams, and G. Greenwood. The secretary of the British Empire - Cancer Campaign Society, Christchurch, wrote advising that it had been decided to commence an appeal in Christchurch and suburbs on February 20th, and asked that the Council consider-what date the campaign should commence is the Kaiapoi district. The letter was received and the matter of arranging an appeal was held over until the holding of a publio. meeting at which it was decided to- invite speakers from Christchurch to attend.
The manager of the Bank of New Zealand (Kaiapoi) advised that the bank rate for overdrafts had increased 4 per cent, as from February Ist, 1930. The lettor was received. .
The secretary of the Kaiapoi Beautifying Association wrote applying for the Council'sannual grant of £100; also a refund of half tho cost of installing! the pump' for watering the memorial plot, . ~ The letter was received, and it was decided that the amounts asked for by the Association be paid. The County Clerk of the Eyre County Council wrote advising that the Council 'was willing to pay ralf the cost of the expenses of a public meeting regarding the cancer campaign. With reference to. the appoint-, ment of a traffic inspector, the Council would not express a definite opinion on the matter until after the conference called by the Bangiora County Council, j The letter was received.
The Town Clerk of the Christchurch City Council wrote advising that it was proposed to hold a conference of local bodies on February 26th to consider upon what basis - heavy traffic fees should be collected in the future, and asked the Council to appoint a representative.
The lettor was received • and - • the 'Mayor and the Town Clerk were appointed to attendee conference. . The Board's representative on the Distriot Highways Council, Christchurch, wrote advising that the Board was agreeable to subsidising the cost of maintenance of Charles and Ranfurly streets and the Cam road on the basis of £2 for £1 during the time that traffio is being directed while the concrete pavement ie being constructed on the Main North road. The letter was received.
Mr H. Barritt wrote applying to lease section 119 at "The Pines," and also asked the Council's permission to remove a. dwelling from Peraki street to "The Pities." The application for a lease was granted, and it was decided to inspect the dwelling before deciding about its removal. ' The secretary of the Wa'imakariri Harbour Board wrbte with reference to topping poplar trees on the Board's 'section in Raven street' and advised that the Board did not consider the trees dangerous. The letter was. received, and.it was decided to approach the Board on the matter again. . Mr R. J. Logan made application under the Rating Act, 1925, for a refund of half rates paid in respect of a section in Raven street, which had been unoccupied for the past six months. The letter was received and the application was granted The request of the headmaster of the Kaiapoi Borough School that echool children be granted the use of the publio baths from 3.30 to 4 p.m. on schooldays was agreed to. A. motion of sympathy was passed to Cr. M. Ramsay on the death of his mother. The financial statement showed receipts as £572 13s 9d, and a debit bank balance of £1362 6s Id. Accounts amounting to £345 lis 6d were passed for payment.
