BILLIARDS.

CLARK M'CONACHY AT LEICESTER.

'VKOIC OVa OWW COBBZBPONDBKT.) December 23. Last week Clark McConachy, the New Zealand billiard champion, was playing an exhibition game at Leicester. In the course of four hours' play he scored 2708 points, while two opponents, between them, aggregated 455. At the afternoon session, McConachy played against T. S. Lewry, a local cueist, and had intended to concede 1250 start on the day's play, but at the interval the New Zealander had wiped off so many of his arrears that he decided to give W. Osborne, whom he opposed in the evening, an additional 600 points. During the afternoon McConachy made breaks of 35, 192, 33, 60, 399, 39, 34 (twice), 85, 74, 232, and 101 (unfinished) and scored a total of 1370 to his opponents' 173. At the evening session the New Zealander was in even better form. He carried his unfinished 101 to 141, and followed with breaks of 194, 105, 444, 400, 47, 61, and 39. In his 13 visits to the table he averaged 102, despite the fact that on three occasions he failed to score. " McConachy's exposition was delightful," says the "Leicester Mail." "He rarely made any obvious mistake, while some of his strokes called for sheer brilliance. One or two masse shots wilh which he extricated himself from difficulties aroused great admiration, whi'ie his manceuvering and ball control were excellent. He had several runs of close cannons, and made the majority of his points at the top of the table. Clever screw shots and thin cannons also held him greatly. "The visiting cueist was deliberate and sure, and his game was easy to follow. He provided a treat for billiards enthusiasts which they are likely to remember for some time."
