Reservoirs and water-holes have been replenished and many millions of gallons have been added to storages along the North-South railway. Washaways on the. Quorn-Alice Springs section caused serious damage to the line. The Onkaparinga river rose twelve feet during the night and many camping parties lost their outfits.
FLOODS IN NEW SOUTH ♦WALES. WIDESPREAD DAMAGE REPORTED. SYDNEY, December 27. Floods in the south and terrific storms in the north and north-west caused widespread damage and dislocated telegraph and railway services on the south coast. Washaways occurred on the railway lines, the water being three feet over the permanent way. The outskirts of the town of Cootamundra are flooded. A huge inland sea extends for mile,-*. A terrific electric storm, followed by a cyclonic storm, eaused enormous damage in the Grafton district. Cattle were struck dead, homes wrecked, and the town plunged in darkness. Many persons had remarkable escapes from death.
