ATHLETICS.

HALSWELL MEETING.

The Halswell Domain was crowded yesterday afternoon, when the Halswell Amateur Athletic Club's sports meeting was held. The meeting was ably conducted by the officials o£ the Papanui Amateur Cycling Club and the Canterbury Centre. The performances were surprisingly good, and especially in the running events, two or three verv fast times being recorded. Ihe cycle track was a clay one, and not conducive to good times. A. B. Clark (Technical) ran up to his best form in the final of the 100 yards handicap, which he won from 4yds in the fast time of lOsec. HH run was the best of Good times were also returned in the 440 yards and the 880 yards handicaps, both won by R. Poff (Marist). Poff ran strongly in both races and showed good judgment in his finishing efforts. The cycling events produced some K° 0( » riding, "with L. J. Richards gaming three wins. In the first heat o! the one mile cycle handicap several competnors came down at the south-east corner, and two girls, Tessie Doody and Mary Mo-G'-atb, were injured.
