CANTERBURY COLLEGE
BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET. The Board of Governors of Canterbury College met yesterday, when there were present Colonel the Hon. Mr Smith, M.L.C. (chairman). Miss E. A. Chaplin, Mrs N. H. Clark, Dr. James Hight, Dr. H. G. Denham, Messrs E. J. Howard, M.P., J. G. Poison, L. B. Wood, C. T. Aschman, W. A. Banks, A. E. Flower, H. D>. Acland, J. H. E. Schroder, and W. M. Hamilton. The College Committee recommended : That the following lecturers and part-time lecturers be re-appointed for the 1930 session:—Mr J. E. Purchase, Lecturer in Education ; Mr L. L. Cordery. Lecturer in Accountancy; Mr W. A. Smith, Assistant Lecturer in Accountancy; Mr A. G. Henderson, Lecturer in Journalism; Mr R. A. Cuthbert, Assistant Lecturer in Commercial Law; Miss J. Black, assistant to Lecturer in Music. That Mr Ernest W. White, M.A., LL.M.. be appointed as part-time assistant Lecturer in History and Political Science for the 1930 session, and Miss C. West-Watson as Student Assistant. That letters of thanks be sent to the following for gifts to the College Library:—Mrs A. H'. Alabaster, gift of seven large volumes of engravings of scenes from several of the novels of Sir Walter Scott; Miss Ross, gift of seven volumes of French works; the Vice-Consul for the Netherlands (on behalf of the Consul-General at Sydney), gift of a publication, "The Importance .of the Netherlands —seen from the air." That Miss E. Morrison be appointed Student Assistant in Philosophy for the 1930 session. That the following be appointed assistants to the College Librarian for the 1930 session : Mr T. Williams, senior assistant; Miss W'inifred Smith and Mr H. F. Harding, junior assistants. The committee reported : Having resolved to invite applications in New Zealand arui Australia for the position of Lecturer in the Department of English (vice the late Mr Cane), the appointment to be for two years, at the end of which period it will be reviewed : and having resolved to invite applications in New Zealand and Australia for the position of Demonstrator in Mechanical Engineering, vice Mr Ra'strick. The report was adopted. The High Schools and Hostels Committee reported having been advised ly the Education Department that -i grant had been approved for the completion of the central block of i'<e Avonside Girlw Hich School. tenders for which work were to be called immediately. The report was adopted.
