TWO AERO CLUBS.

♦ CONFERENCE AT ASHBURTON. WILL WORK TOGETHER. A successful conference of delegates, from the Canterbury and Vid-Canter-bury Aero Clubs was held in the Ashburton Borough Council Chambers ou Saturday afternoon to go into th« question of the operation of the two clubs in combination. The Canterbury Club delegates were Sir Francis Boys (president), Mr P. R. Climio (secretary), Captains J. C. Mercer (pilot instructor;, X. H. Barlow, and AV . L. Harrison. The last four flew to Ashburton in two Moth aeroplanes and Sir Francis Boys travelled by car. He returned to Christehurch by air. The MidCanterbury delegates were Messrs AL. Jones (vice-chairman), R. J. Laurenson, J. A. Crowe. J. R. Richardson, and J. If. Miller (secretary). The conference lasted about two hours and a satisfactory basis for the combination of the clubs was arrived at, several recommendations being agreed to The delegates will convey these to their respective clubs, and a further conference will be held at an early date to draw up a constitution and rules for the group. While the conference was in progress a telegram was received from the Minister for Defence (the Hon. Mr Wilford) wishing success to the deliberations. He added that he had read with interest of the keen manner in which aviation was being fostered in the Mid-Canterbury district, and he heartil" congratulated all concerned on the progress that had been made to date. It was very pleasing to him to know that the Ashburton Borough and County Councils-were co-operating and had agreed to the purchase of an air port site. Steps were being taken to gazette the Mid-Canterbury Aero Club as a recognised aviation authority. He had first-hand knowledge of the air port site and looked forward to seeing it again and to observe the progress that had taken place in it on his return from England a year or two hence. At the conclusion of the conference the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea and left for the north shortly after o o'clock. Captain Barlow giving an exhibition of aerobatics before he left.
