BROADSIDING.

MONICA PARK SPEEDWAY. GOOD RACING AND RECORD ATTENDANCE. The large attendance at the Monica Park Speedway on Saturday night showed clearly that the sport of "broadsiding" is now definitely established at that locale. The attendance constituted a record, in fact, and was the more remarkable in that all the riders were local men, the Australian cracks at present visiting the Dominion, who performed so convincingly at the Speedway at the previous meeting, being competitors at Wellington, together with North Island champions. Saturday night's meeting was the first to be held at Monica Park since Stadiums (Christchurch), Ltd., took over the affairs of the English Park Speedways, the best of whose riders turned out for the occasion. That they have already made themselves acquanited with the conditions of the Monica Park Speedway they showed by the manner in which they took the corners, round which they careered at breakneck speed, sending the cinders flying as they did so, and only on rare occasions falling from their machines. The North Island boasts some expert riders, but it is only a matter of time when Christchurch will become famous for the calibre of its dirt-track exponents. There were several exciting finishes, and altogether the evening's racing was as successful as any yet held in the City. During the evening E. Marsh made an attempt on the mile record for the track established by W. Allen—lmin 34sec but was unable to do better than lmin Sssec—a second outside the record. The smart way in which the various events were put on was favourably commented on by the spectators, who also were appreciative of playing of Derry's Band.
