CHRISTCHURCH WEST SCHOOL.
The monthly meeting of ths Christchurch D.H.S. Committee was held on Monday, Mr J. H. J one* presiding. Tie chairman made feeling reference to the late Dr. Chaa. Chilton, who was associated with the school for over SO year*. A * ot« of condolence was pawed to Mrs Chilton. The headmaster reported a roll number of 919, with an average attendance of 839. The chairman gave a resume of hia fraitless endeavours to hare the new wing of the •chool erected on the aite formerly approved by the committee. A atrong protest was made against the decision of the Department. and the chairman was instructed to forward to the Minister for Education and to the local MP., Mr E J. Howard, a telegram urging that the mat'er be reconsidered. It was decided to hold the annual school excursion at Ashbarton on February 13th. A* tha recent D certificate examinations. the four candidate* from the secondary department ww successful, Isobel Boyle ■•curing a full pass and Petrr* Finlay. Manu lock wood, and Hilda W;se partial' passes.
