HOUSE OF HELP.
CHURCH OF ENGLAND'S EFFORT. An effort to rope with distress in the City will be initialed by the Church of England in Chrietchurch this afternoon, when the St. Martin's House of Help, at 114 Salisbury street, will be officially opened by Bishop WestWatson. While the house of help will be the centre of the Church of England social welfare work in Christchnrrh, it will be open to those in need of help of all classes and creeds. The Rev. P. Revell, City Evangelist, will be in charge of the house, and will have the help of a sub-committee from the Bishop's Social and Evangelistic Council. The activities of the house will be to provide clothing for respectable, needy people, and to provide food in certain cases. Lodgings will be provided for homeless single men and women. The house will be a clearing-house for the Church of England, and Mr Revell hopes to make it .1 bureau of information, where anybody in trouble may come in, talk in over with Mr Revell, and get advice "and sympathy. A very strong body of workers has been formed already, and gifts of second-hand clothes will be needed to enable work to be started at ence in preparation for the hardships of the winter. / Arrangements are being made for close inter-relation with other social workers in Christchurch. to prevent overlapping. There will be a close scrutiny of the lists by other social workers.
