SNOW CHALLENGE SHIELD.

BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL WINS. Ideal weather conditions favoured tae annual competition for the Snow Cadet Challenge Shield, fired between the Boy&* High School and Christ's College yesterday afternoon. Boys' High School won by 313 points to 300. The school and the college each selected a platoon consisting of one acting-Officer, two runners, and four sections of six men and one n.c.o. each. The odd-numbered section* took the part of riflemen and the even-numbered sections that of Lewis gunners. Both platoons fell in at King Edward Barracks, where they were inspected by the board of umpires, and then marched to the range at Cashmere. While on the march, a Government publicity film was taken. On arrival, the Coflege platoon "went into action in square formation at 600 yards, and then extended, the supposition being that they had come under heavy rifle and artillery fire. Fire opened at 450 yards range and each section advanced firing until the range had been decreased to 200 yards, where effective fire by* the attackers "made itself felt." The range was still farther decreased to about 100 yards when the "enemy," a line of iron plates, were supposed to have been wiped out. The time occupied in advancing from the 600 yards, mark until the last shot was fired, was well within the allotted half-hour. At 2.40 p.m.. tlfe Bovs' High School platoon took the field. At 800 yards four Scouts were thrown forward to reconnoitre the position. At the same time the platoon broke up and deployed to a front of 800 yards, then being "under art TT.ery fire." They then advanced 2-50 yards by means of section rushes. This method was assumed to lessen the chance of having "great losses*' when advancing. At 430 yards the platoon opened fire with a Lewis (run. At 400 yards fire became effective, plates flying in all directions. From cover at 100 yards the fire beremarkably effective, one section knocking ovor all their plates except three. The following are the results of tho '"owpetition : College. B.H.S. Points. Points.
