NEW BRIGHTON GALA.

PRELIMINARY MEETING. • A public meeting was held in the Council Chambers, New Brighton, laat night, tho Mayor (Mr J. H. Shaw) presiding. The Mayor explained that the meeting had been called for the purpose of coming to some decision regarding the holding of a carnival or gala, this year. Among-t those present were representatives of the following clubs and sports bodies :—Surf Club. Athletic Club, Association Football Club, Cricket Club, Bowling Ctab, Greater Progress Association. Municipal Band, Girl Guides. Methodist GymnasticClub. and Golf Club. After discussion it was resolved that a seven days' carnival be held during the Christinas and New Year holiday period, probably commencing o December 26th. , The delegates present are to report back to their several organisation.., then to a general meeting of the i,aia Committee to \je held on the lJth ins .
