Mr C. E. Dawe forwarded plans and specifications for the new road from Heatlicote Bridge to Hornbrook'a road. Mt. Pleasant. The clerk reported that copies in triplicate together with an application for a grant »or the relief of unemployment had been torwarded to the Public Works Department for consideration. _, . , Messrs A. S. Xicholls, W. de Thier, and Geo. Scott wrote guaranteeing £IOOO towards the cost of forming the road from Heathcote Bridge to Hornbrook's road, Mt. Pleasant. Mr F G. Abraham wrote asking if something could be done to Carter's mad. S.ran<n, and suggesting that the metal be procured from Page's road. The matter was left to Cr. Moore and the inspector to deal with. The InsDCctor's report was as follows: In the Avon riding 200 feet of three-inch field pipes have been put in to drain Wainoni road footpath from Onslow street corner. Seven barrels of bitumen tar have been ordered for mixing with metal and screenings. In Bromley 12 yards of screenings were put on footpaths at Bexley. Cuthbert's road and Mace's road have been made up with tram metal and rolled. A start will be made today on the repairs and strengthening of the river embankment at Bexley. Seven trucks of shingle were put on Hills road highway and three trucks on Opawa road A footpath at Huntsbury Hill has been formed and coated with eight yards of screenings. A nine-inch pipe drain has been put through Mr Adams's property from Lascelles street to the main drain in the Hillsborough riding. In the Valley, the widening and reforming of Bridle path road, near Mr Anson's, has been done with second-hand tram metal, and a low part of the footpath has been made up. Thf laying of the three-inch water main at Bowenvale is proceeding, and should be completed this week. A start will shortly be nade on Colombo Btreet. The report was adopted. The tender of Messrs Gough, Gough, and Hay man, Christchurch, for 350 100 watt street lamps for the Avon and Bromley ridings was accepted, the price being 2a Old each. The engineer reported as follows in connexion with the Cashmere water supply: A commencement has been made with placing the concrete in the floor of the reservoir, and the centre portion, 50ft x 50ft, has been laid. The work done so far is as under:—. Excavating reservoir, clay 1660 cubic yards, excavating rock 153 cubic yards, excavating trench 165 cubic yards. The value of the work done so far is £1249 18s. After previous payments, £2Ol 2s 6d is now owing. The amount was passed for payment. The chairman and Cr. Scarff wen requested to report to nest meeting on the extension of the contract.
